Copper Smith Boedeker

One of 50+ dogs we fostered, Copper was the one we adopted. Almost 12 years in our family, he was the guardian of our granddaughter, Evie. Patriarch of our current pack of dachshunds.
Our ‘always’ ready to eat dog.
Survivor of two IVDD surgeries, back and neck. Lived out his final years with limited vision and no hearing.  Survivor of heartworm treatment when he was first rescued by Dachshund Rescue of Houston. Loved to spend time camping in the RV. Never met a stranger.

But old age and doggie dementia proved to be more than he could overcome.

The worst day of pet ownership is the day you show the most compassion you’ve ever had the honor of bestowing on another living creature.

Rest easy, Copper. You’re healed now and ready to romp with all those former foster pups that you spent time teaching about the second chance life they would be earning!

“And just like that, he was someone else’s dog…” This time, the best father ever, God’s dog.

Shay

Thank you Jesus for the gift of Shay.
To call her "just a dog" would be to miss the point entirely. She was a family member, a best friend, my first girl dachshund, my very first adopted dog from Dachshund Rescue of Houston, and the keeper of our hearts. I was blessed to be her mama for nearly 15 of her 16 years.

Looking back, it’s hard not to feel the weight of sadness. But as I think about all the things I loved about her, I am reminded of the words of Dr. Seuss: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

There will never be another dog quite like Shay. She will forever have a piece of my heart with her.
Run free Shay Shay and say hi to your brother Ziggy, sister JoJo and brother Everett who all went before you. Tell them we still love them and talk about them too.

MinnieMo

In Loving Memory of MinnieMo
Crossed the Rainbow Bridge – January 25, 2026

MinnieMo was a special little angel, and her adopted parents were blessed with the incredible gift of loving her for two short but meaningful months. Though her time with them was brief, the love she gave and received was deep, real, and life-changing.

Before rescue, MinnieMo endured a hard and unfair life. By the time she was finally safe, heartworms had already caused devastating damage to her tiny body. Despite treatment and the extraordinary efforts of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, the damage to her heart, lungs, and kidneys was too severe to heal. There was no cure for what neglect had done.

What makes the loss even harder is that MinnieMo had just begun to know The Good Life of soft beds, gentle hands, safety, and love. She was learning what it meant to be cherished. She was her Mom's  constant shadow, never far away, always close, always trusting.

MinnieMo’s story is a cry from the heart to anyone who has a dog: please take care of them. Dogs are a precious gift from God. They rely on us for everything, especially for their health and protection. Monthly heartworm prevention is simple, affordable, and lifesaving. Without it, heartworms cause unimaginable suffering, slowly ravaging every vital organ and stealing lives far too soon.

MinnieMo did not deserve the pain she endured, but she did know love at the end. She left this world wrapped in kindness, dignity, and compassion. That love goes with her across the Rainbow Bridge, where her body is whole, her heart is strong, and she runs free at last.

Run free, sweet MinnieMo.
You were loved beyond measure, and you will never be forgotten.
