Copper

It's literally the end of an era.  Just shy of two decades, this little 9 pound Chiweenie ruled my house.  Run free, crazy Copper!

Copper Smith Boedeker

One of 50+ dogs we fostered, Copper was the one we adopted. Almost 12 years in our family, he was the guardian of our granddaughter, Evie. Patriarch of our current pack of dachshunds.
Our ‘always’ ready to eat dog.
Survivor of two IVDD surgeries, back and neck. Lived out his final years with limited vision and no hearing.  Survivor of heartworm treatment when he was first rescued by Dachshund Rescue of Houston. Loved to spend time camping in the RV. Never met a stranger.

But old age and doggie dementia proved to be more than he could overcome.

The worst day of pet ownership is the day you show the most compassion you’ve ever had the honor of bestowing on another living creature.

Rest easy, Copper. You’re healed now and ready to romp with all those former foster pups that you spent time teaching about the second chance life they would be earning!

“And just like that, he was someone else’s dog…” This time, the best father ever, God’s dog.
