Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted. We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.
Meet Kira!
Kira is an incredibly sweet, loving little girl who will make a wonderful forever companion for the right home. She’s about 11 lbs and one year old, with a gentle spirit and a big desire to bond closely with her person.
Personality & Temperament
Kira is a true Velcro pup as she wants to be near you at all times. She’s happiest at your feet, in your lap for snuggles, or snoozing beside you while you work. She loves people and did great at a neighborhood doggy playdate with nine dogs of all sizes and several calm, dog-savvy adults. She hasn’t been tested with cats or children yet.
Training & House Manners
Kira came to us with very little exposure to the outdoors, so housetraining has been a work in progress. She now reliably uses a pee pad about 85% of the time, and her foster is working on outdoor potty skills by taking her out consistently 10–15 minutes after meals. She will go outside, often preferring walkways over grass, but she still sometimes waits until she’s back indoors. Continued patience and routine will be important for her success.
Kira has discovered the doggy door and loves running in and out onto the deck and walkways. She’s not yet a big toy or fetch girl, though she did think her foster’s sandals were toys on day one! She has learned sit and down with treat motivation.
Food Preferences
Kira prefers canned food and soft treats. She isn’t a big fan of dry food but will eat it if softened with a little broth.
Crate & Anxiety
Kira experiences some separation anxiety and is very excited when her person returns. She has escaped baby gates before, but she does better in a large crate when needed. In the car, she has had some vomiting and accidents in the crate, so a patient adopter will need to help her build confidence with travel.
Ideal Home
Kira would thrive with an adopter who is home most of the time (retired, work-from-home, or someone with a flexible schedule). She bonds deeply and does not enjoy being left alone for long periods.
If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion to share your days, Kira might be the perfect match.
