Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

What a great dog!

Meet Freya, possibly the sweetest dog in the world. She may not be 100% dachshund, but she certainly identifies as one!

Freya's journey to DRoH wasn’t easy. She was found living the stray life in a field, but despite her rough start, she’s embraced the comforts of home like a natural. She immediately understood to potty outside, sleeps soundly in her kennel, and rarely barks. In fact, her kennel is her second favorite spot ...right after your lap.

Freya is a gentle and cautious soul. New sights and sounds can be a little scary for her, and she often responds by hunkering down or retreating to her kennel. But every day, she grows a little braver and a little bolder. As she comes out of her shell, her sweet and playful personality is shining through.

She’s charming, affectionate, and has a fun little habit of removing every toy from the box and relocating them to the couch or her kennel. She’s also beginning to play fetch and will prance joyfully around the yard, especially when she thinks no one is watching. And when the treats come out? She quite literally jumps for joy!

Freya is also careful and thoughtful, as she doesn’t want to break any rules. She’s incredibly smart and very food-motivated, making her easy to train (especially for a dachshund!). She responds well to gentle corrections and walks nicely on a harness, however she’s NOT a fan of leashes attached to her collar.

She loves her foster brothers, even if they are a bunch of grumpy Gusses.

Freya will thrive in a calm, loving home with patient people who understand that trust takes time.  Every day with her is a step closer to watching her fully blossom.
