Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted. We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Update: They found me walking the streets with my two little ones. Boy! Those were some tough times down and out but luckily I was rescued by Dachshund Rescue of Houston. My foster family treats me like a queen. I’m not quite a southern belle, but I do enjoy cuddling in laps and under the covers - I’m a hopeless romantic and enjoy love and attention, giving and getting. I never have accidents in the house but use the dog door whenever necessary to take care of business. I’m an independent gal and sassy! Even though I want to be a part of whatever is going on, I never bark and I’ve made friends with the other two doggy residents here. I’m getting used to getting my doggy massages and my regular meals. If you are looking for a sweetheart of a dog, I’m your gal! Joy is the sweetest and most affectionate dog. She is quiet and friendly and loves to be close to her foster parents, snuggling on laps and under the covers. Joy has also been patient and tolerant of our other dogs territorial personality, not engaging with her in any way. She has quickly learned how to use the dog door and has only had one accident in the house which was only the first evening she was with us. She is an enthusiastic eater, needing to gain a few pounds after raising her two puppies on the street. I believe Joy would be a lovely addition to any home.
