Copper Merie needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?

Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted.  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Hey there good lookin'! I see you checking me out and may I just say you have impeccable taste! My name is Copper, but my foster mom calls me Johnny Walker because I'm a smooth talker (has nothing to do with as she puts it "putting on my walking shoes whenever I get the chance" she's a bit delusional). There is nothing I love more than to be with my people and snuggle up against them. Except... I do love to chase those cats whenever I can! But the front end is not nearly as fun as the back end, but that won't deter me! I love my foster brother, Reggie, and he is one dapper dude. He shares everything with me, toys, treat, and (my least favorite!) his kennel. I will grudingly go in the kennel when my foster mom abandons us each morning, but I would much prefer to roam the house to bask in the sunshine, lay on the couch, and do whatever my little heart desires! I am housebroken and am quite vocal about needing to go out. I will sit at your feet and whine ever so sadly and then bark if you still aren't getting the hint! I don't talk a whole lot unless I need to potty or I'm in the kennel. Currently, my foster mom forces me to sleep in the kennel each night and it's absolute torture! I don't cry as much now, but I would much prefer to snuggle right up next to you and sleep in the bed. You know everyone should have a weiner in bed ;) I love to go on walks and happily wear my collar and leash. But I don't like harnesses because they inhibit my ability to strut and I have to make sure everyone can see my swagger. I love to join my foster mom in the shower as a stealth ninja, I just always want to be with her, so therefore the shower is where I must be! I love to chew on toys and kong chew toys are my favorite as well as the nice soft plushy toys that I can slowly rip apart. I have not met a food I don't like and I have a very gentle mouth so you never have to worry about finger nips when giving me treats. I am an absolute perfect gentleman to everyone I meet and would love to find my forever home with you! Ok Rebecca here (aka foster mom): Now that JW has said his bit (he's a saucy little thing isn't he?), I'll add in my two cents. He is just the sweetest dachshund you will ever meet (unless you are a cat) and he just wants to be loved on. While I can't definitively say he is good with kids, I have zero hesitation in saying he would be good with all ages. He has such a mild temperment and nothing fazes him (again so long as you aren't a cat). He just loves to chase my cats who have turned around and smacked him several times quite hard and yet he just keeps on after them. He is not a huge fan of staying in his kennel, but he has come a long way since I first got him three weeks ago. He used to just cry and bark about once an hour every hour at night and now we're down to one cry and one bark a night and some light whining when I leave for work, so I think it won't be much longer before he fully accepts the kennel and is quiet all night. You do need to watch him with stairs as he is always trying to get up them, baby gate or not. I think this has more to do with the fact that the cats spend most of their time upstairs so naturally that's where he must be in order to bother them. I think in a house without cats he would not try to to get up the stairs as much as he does at my house. I really can't say enough good things about him and if you think this perfect little carpet shark might be the one for you, submit your application today because he will be snapped up fast!
