Please note:  Not all DRoH Dogs are listed on our website. New intake dogs are first presented to approved adopters and often get adopted before going public .  We recommend any serious adopter applies to adopt and gets in the DRoH approved adopter queue so they will see the newest dogs as they arrive.

Steffi is a sweet, loving dog who still has a lot of her puppy energy left.  She loves to run around the back yard with her dog buddies, playing tag and wrestling.  She's never met a toy she didn't like, and sometimes she thinks shoes are the perfect thing for chewing.  Her favorite way to spend the afternoon is to slowly find all the toys and carry them to the sofa for storage so she can have lots of selection without ever moving!

Steffi spent a month in her first foster home with DROH.  In that home, she was with her best friend Andre with a foster mom who worked full-time.    She is crate trained and stayed in the crate with Andre during the day and slept in the bedroom in an open crate/bed with Andre at night.  She has learned how to go into her kennel for a treat.  Steffi loved to wake up around 4am and sneak into the bed to cuddle up next to her foster mom.  In this foster home, Steffi was mostly housetrained.  She did great with her peeing but sometimes had accidents with pooping. Sometimes she gets so distracted playing outside that she forgets she needs to go and runs back in the house too quickly. She also thinks this is the perfect way to demonstrate how she feels when foster mom worked long hours and left her home alone too long.

Steffi recently moved into a new foster home and is adapting well.  She's living with 2 other dachshunds, one of whom is about her age and reminds her of Andre, so they play all day long.  She loves having a foster mom and foster dad who are home more and like to be outside.

She's very affectionate and loves licking faces and cuddling up next to her dog buddy or her foster mom.  She is low maintenance except for making sure she doesn't commandeer human items and turn them into dog toys.   She can be vocal at times, and you can definitely count on her to sound the alarm if someone approaches the house.
She is cautious for a few minutes when meeting other ladies, but warms up quickly.  She warms up the fastest to other dogs her size.  She is still not sure about those men, though. For now, she prefers to bark at them... but she's a smart lady, so she isn't going to say no to tasty treats if they get down on her level and offer them. And if it means someone else is getting the attention instead of her, well that helps her get over being nervous too.  But she forgets who they are when they leave the room, so she sticks with barking at first.  With time and patience, she seems capable of overcoming this nervousness.

Steffi is a wonderful, sweet dog who just wants to be loved and will definitely show you how much she loves you and your other dog family members!
